3 Iran film in contention at Melbourne Int’l Film Festival

Three Iranian films are scheduled to be screened at the Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia.

Iran’s representatives include ’24 Frames’, ‘Animal’ and ‘Ascribed Achievements’, vying at the 66th edition of the Australian event.

Directed by legendary Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, ‘24 Frames’ will be displayed at the international section of the festival.

The film is a compilation project he completed before his passing.

‘Ascribed Achievements’ directed by Samaneh Shojaei is another Iranian film to be presented at the festival.

The animation, which is a new experience with grotesque narration and real images, tells the story of an old boy, who is dissatisfied with his inborn appearance and decides to end his life. But his failed suicide leads to a new situation in his life.

‘Animal’ co-directed by Bahram and Bahman Ark is also a guest at the short film section of Melbourne Film Festival.

The 15-minute film is about a man who wants to pass the border unlawfully; so he hunts a ram and decides to escape disguised as the animal.

“MIFF is a not-for-profit organization that has been continuously running since 1952, making it the leading film festival in Australia and one of the world’s oldest film festivals, alongside Cannes and Berlin,” the official website of the festival wrote.‌

The 66th edition of the festival is slated to be launched on August 3-20, 2017 in Australia.
