Qeshm Island celebrates Oud global inscription

Qeshm Island in Iran played host to unveiling ceremony for the UNESCO certificate of inscription for the Oud musical instrument.

A group of activists, provincial and national officials, and skillful and professional players of the instrument were in attendance.

Maestro Mohammad Piri, who played the Oud during the unveiling ceremony, gave a mesmerizing performance.

The certificate of inscription added crafting and playing the Oud to the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

The Oud is a lute-style instrument and is traditionally made and played in Iran and Syria.

In both Iran and Syria, the Oud is made of a pear-shaped sound box, usually crafted from walnut or apricot wood.

The crafting and playing of the Oud in both countries were jointly inscribed in 2022 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
