Iran box office hits revealed; 'Sperm Whale 2' still leads

This week's sales figures for Iran movies on the big screen are out with ‘Sperm Whale 2’ topping the domestic box office.

This week’s revenue receipts for currently playing movies at Iranian cinemas have been released with ‘Sperm Whale 2’ still leading at Iran box office.

As of the weekend leading to July 14 in Iran, ‘Sperm Whale 2’ directed by Saman Moghadam has raked in 183.4 billion rials (around USD 5.6 million), topping the country's box office for the past couple of weeks.

‘Sperm Whale 2’ tells the story of Roya (Mahnaz Afshar), who had dreams of migration to the US, but finally agreed to marry Arjang Senoubar (Reza Attaran) in her homeland.

‘Oxidan’ directed by Hamed Mohammadi came in second place, collecting 36 billion rials (around USD 1.1 million).

“Knowing a simple visa issuance is such a hassle, Aslan would have never fallen in love,” Oxidan’s brief synopsis reads.

According to Iran film distribution managers, ‘Subdue’ directed by Hamid Nematollah has grossed total revenue of 24.2 billion rials (around USD 737,000).

In fourth place came Iranian movie ‘My Brother Khosro’ directed by Ehsan Biglari ending the week with 19.7 billion rials (around USD 584000)
