London Rainbow film festival awards Iranian ‘Motherless’

The Rainbow Int’l Film Festival London awards director of Iranian ‘Motherless’.

The 24th edition of the Rainbow International Film Festival London in the UK has awarded director of Iranian movie ‘Motherless’.

Seyyed-Morteza Fatemi won the best director award for his acclaimed drama ‘Motherless’.

Also written by Fatemi, the movie is about Marjan who aspires to be a mother. She meets Mahrouz, a woman who is trying to raise money for her son's kidney transplant.

“The film is about the peaceful life of a couple, which, when one of them pressures his decision, inadvertently enters into trials and dilemmas and moral dangers. One does not gain anything unless they lose something, and every decision has a price that must be paid,” a short synopsis of the film reads.

The cast list includes Amir Aqaee, Mitra Hajjar, Pejman Jamshidi, Pardis Pour-Abedini, Ali Owji, Bita Aziz, Sara Mohammadi, and Fatemeh Mirzaee.

‘Motherless’ has so far taken part in a number of global events, winning honors such as the Best Film Award at the Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh and the Bengaluru International Film Festival in India.

The 24th Rainbow International Film Festival was held on May 28- June 4, 2023 in London. The winners were announced on Sunday.

Bangladeshi thriller ‘JK 1971’ was picked as the best film and Indian drama ‘Gargi’ won the award for best screenplay.

The Best Film for Humanity award went to the Kazakh drama ‘Mom, I’m Alive!’ and ‘Satao’ by Khandaker Sumon from Bangladesh received the Rainbow Film Society Special Mention.
