Shanghai Int’l filmfest awards Iranian cinematographer

The 25th Shanghai Int’l Film Festival in China awards Iranian cinematographer Davoud Malek-Hosseini.

The 25th edition of the Shanghai International Film Festival in China has awarded Iranian cinematographer Davoud Malek-Hosseini.

Malek-Hosseini won the Best Cinematographer prize for his collaboration in ‘Cause of Death: Unknown’ by Ali Zarnegar.

“Eight travelers leave Shahdad for Kerman before sunrise. An accidental midway stops them from going," the synopsis for ‘Cause of Death: Unknown’ reads.

Banipal Shoumoun, Alireza Sanifar, Neda Jebraeeli, Ali Mohammad Radmanesh, Zakieh Behbahani, Reza Amouzad, Soheil Bavi, and Saeed Rezaeekia are on the cast list of the film.

Founded in 1993, the Shanghai International Film Festival is the largest film festival in China.

The 2023 edition of the event, held on June 9-18, marks the first fully physical edition since the onset of the pandemic.

‘Sunday’ by Uzbekistan-based director Shokir Kholikov was named the best film at the Asian New Talent section of the festival.

Iranian actress Sorour Peyrovani won the Best Actress Award for her appearance in ‘1.5 Horsepower’ directed by Rasoul Kahani.
