In summer, Maharlu Lake in Iran’s southwestern province of Fars, turns red, attracting many tourists.

Maharlu Lake turns red because of the presence of algae known as Dunaliella salina.

As summer comes and amid soaring temperatures, Maharlu Lake’s water evaporates.

Water evaporation from the lake leads to a reduced water level and the rise of salt concentration in Maharlu, and subsequently causes the growth of salt-tolerant algae known as Dunaliella salina.

Here are some photos show the beauty of Maharlu Lake.
