On Wednesday night, 50 confectioners began making a 20-ton cake in the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS) to distribute among pilgrims on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Ghadir.
The cake is 1,434 meters long. It is made of 12 tons of sponge cake, 5 tons of cream and three tons of other ingredients.
Eid al-Ghadir marks the anniversary of the day when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) named his cousin and son-in-law, Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS), as his successor and the leader of Muslims.
The occasion is observed on the 18 day of the lunar Islamic Calendar month of Dhu al-Hijjah, which falls on Friday, this year.
