Doc on Hollywood action icon to close Canada fest

Hollywood action icon's career-spanning documentary 'Sly' is set to close the Toronto Filmfest in Canada.

Hollywood action icon's career-spanning documentary 'Sly' is set to close the Toronto Filmfest in Canada.

According to a media report, the documentary themed on Sylvester Stallone will close the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 16.

Directed by Thom Zimny, the doc revolves around Stallone's famous performances in films such as 'Rocky', 'Rambo', and 'The Expendables'.

Despite being a Netflix title, 'Sly' is not covered by TV and theatrical agreements of the Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), potentially allowing Stallone to attend the premiere in Toronto.

His attendance, however, is yet to be confirmed due to the actors' strike in the U.S.

This retrospective comes after Stallone's success on television with shows like 'Tulsa King' and 'The Family Stallone'.

Meanwhile, Netflix is working on a three-part documentary series about Stallone's friend and former box office rival, Arnold Schwarzenegger, titled 'Arnold'.

In Hollywood, both actors and writers are currently on strike, bringing the film and TV industry to a standstill.

“Stallone’s story is one of perseverance, triumph, and his indelible mark left on the world of film, and we couldn’t be more honored to share it with our audiences as our Closing Night film,” said CEO of TIFF, Cameron Bailey.
