Cinema nominees for 17th Hafez Awards unveiled

The nominee lists for the cinema section of the 17th edition of Iran’s Hafez Awards, as the major private awards on cinema and TV, are unveiled.

Films competing in this year’s event comprise works played in movie theatres within a year from March 20, 2016. The jurors evaluated all films publicly screened over the period, to arrive at the final list.

The board of juries released the shortlist of 10 movies in the field of best film award. “Standing in the dust” directed by Mohammad Hossein Mahdavian, and “the Salesman” directed by Asghar Farhadi are among the nominees.

The jurors have also chosen qualified entries for the best director award, including Narges Abyar for “Breath”, Reza Dormishian for “Lantouri”, Behrouz Shoeibi for “Sianor”, Asghar Farhadi for “the salesman,” Mostafa Kiaei for “Barcode” and Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian for “The Midday Adventure”.

The 17th edition of the Hafez Awards, to be held in August, is Iran’s first and only private awards in the film industry annually organized by the Persian cinematic monthly Donya-ye Tasvir.
