A review of Iranian box office figures for the first half of the year

Read on for a review of Iranian box office figures for the first half of the year.

In the first half of the Persian year 1402, the Iranian film industry witnessed a surge in box office sales and audience reception, with much credit going to the comedy hit, 'Fossil’. This film set a new benchmark for success.

During this period, 'Fossil' shared the spotlight with other notable works like 'Herat City’, 'Three Days in Jail’, 'Two-Person Song’, 'Leather Jacket’, and 'The Stranger’. These films succeeded to stand out from the crowd, achieving remarkable box office earnings.

According to Film News, the 1402 film season kicked off with the screening of New Year films on the 25th of Esfand (the last month of the Persian year which is March 16, 2023). Titles like ‘Fossil’, ‘The Stranger’, ‘The Bride of Angel Street’ and ‘Children of the Storm’ were among the offerings.

During the second week of the Nowruz holidays, 'Fossil' started its remarkable ascent, gaining popularity with audiences. This success influenced the performance of subsequent releases, including those during Eid al-Fitr and the early summer season.

‘Fossil’ had such an impact that other filmmakers decided to delay their releases, waiting for the buzz around the film to calm down. This move benefited movies that had been waiting for a chance to hit the market, thanks to the path paved by ‘Fossil’.
