The Great Celebration of the Prophet of Kindness’ Birth Anniversary has been held in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

The Great Celebration of the Prophet of Kindness’ Birth Anniversary has been held in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Crowds of people attended the event in the center of Tehran on Tuesday to express their love for Islam’s Prophet Muhammad [PBUH].

Prophet Muhammad [PBUH] was born on the 17th day of Rabi’-ul-Awwal, the third month in the Islamic lunar calendar, in 570 CE. The auspicious occasion falls on Tuesday, this year.

The participants in the event were also holding up a copy of the Holy Qur’an as a sign of respect for Islam’s holy book, condemning the recent acts of desecration to the Qur’an in some European countries.

The birth anniversary of the Prophet [PBUH] was observed in other Muslim countries several days ago as Sunni and Shia denominations celebrate this event on two different dates.

According to the Sunni narrative, the Prophet [PBUH] was born on the 12th day of Rabi’-ul-Awwal.

As per a call made by the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, the week in between the two dates, the one narrated by Sunnis and the other by Shias, has been designated as “the Islamic Unity Week” to promote convergence among all Muslims.

The 17th day of Rabi’-ul-Awwal also marks the birth anniversary of Imam Jafar Sadiq (AS), the Sixth Shia Imam.
