'The Night Guardian' eligible for 2024 Oscars

Reza Mirkarimi's 'The Night Guardian' earns eligibility for the 2024 Oscars.

Iranian director Reza Mirkarimi's ‘The Night Guardian’ has been named eligible for the 96th Academy Awards, scheduled to take place on March 10, 2024.

The film has been included in the list of 88 eligible films for the Best International Feature category, as unveiled by the Academy.

On December 21, 2023 a shortlist of 15 films will be revealed, further narrowing down the contenders.

The final nominations for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced on January 23, 2024.

The 2022 movie, co-written by Mirkarimi and Mohammad Davoud, delves into the story of Rasoul, an innocent village boy whose life takes an unexpected turn when he becomes a night guardian at a construction site in the city.

As Rasoul grapples with strange things at the seemingly deserted location, he finds himself entangled in a web of danger and suspense.

The film stars Vishka Asayesh, Mohsen Kiaee and Toraj Alvand.

Mirkarimi, the acclaimed director behind the film, clinched the Best Director Simorgh at the 40th edition of the Fajr International Film Festival in Iran.

Notably, Mirkarimi has previously been awarded the Best Film accolade at the Fajr Film Festival for his film ‘So Close, So Far Away’.

Iran's film industry has been a consistent contender at the Oscars since 1994, with notable wins for films like ‘A Separation’ and ‘The Salesman’, both directed by Asghar Farhadi.
