Iranian Animation 'Sword and Sorrow' unveils trailer

Official trailer of Iranian animation 'Sword and Sorrow' is released.

During the 42nd edition of the Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF), the official trailer of the highly anticipated Iranian animation 'Sword and Sorrow' has been released.

Co-directed by Emad Rahmani and Mehrzad Mehrabi, and marking debut in the animation section of the event, 'Sword and Sorrow' takes viewers on a journey through the history of Islam, with a particular focus on the event of Karbala.

As one of the four featured animations at the 42nd FIFF, the 92-minute film unfolds the historical period from the martyrdom of Imam Hassan (AS) to the arrival of Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala, narrated through the perspective of an Iranian residing in Mada'in.

What sets 'Sword and Sorrow' apart is its use of human scanning technology (MetaHuman) – the first time in the history of Iranian animation. The work's hyperreal and realistic atmosphere is achieved through the meticulous scanning of humans, capturing facial expressions, quality, and designing clothing.

Director Rahmani, speaking at a press conference during the festival, shared insights into the animation's creation, revealing that the innovative MetaHuman technique involved the detailed scanning of humans and their expressions, resulting in a level of realism unprecedented in Iranian animation.

“The project, involving nearly two hundred contributors, required almost two years of collaborative efforts to reach completion. 'Sword and Sorrow' stands as a testament to the intersection of technology, history, and artistry within the Iranian animation landscape,” Rahmani said.

The 42nd FIFF is currently ongoing and will continue until February 11, 2024.
