Honoring legacy of martyr Mostafa Chamran

Today, June 20 (Khordad 31 on the Persian calendar), marks the 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Mostafa Chamran, an iconic Iranian war hero and a profound example of humanity, who journeyed from the world of academia to the battlefield.

Born in Tehran’s Sarpoulak neighborhood in 1932, Chamran pursued his academic ambitions in the US, earning a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Plasma Physics from the University of California-Berkeley.

After completing his studies, Chamran left academia to support Islamic movements in Palestine and Lebanon.

Then, he returned to Iran to become a pivotal figure in the Islamic Revolution and later served as a member of parliament and the commander of paramilitary volunteers during the Iraq-Iran war.

When the Iraq-Iran war erupted, Chamran relinquished his position to join the frontlines in Ahwaz, where he fought until his martyrdom on June 21, 1981.

In remembrance of martyr Chamran, iFilm once screened the movie ‘Chamran’, which highlights his significant contributions and transformation from a scientist studying in the US to a devoted defender of Islam. This film provides an in-depth look at his inspirational life.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has praised the war hero, stating: “Martyr Mostafa Chamran was a scientist studying in the US and then became a defender of Islam with his religious devotion. It befits to say that he was one of the top two students at his university in his field.”

As we honor Chamran's legacy, his life continues to inspire and remind us of the impact one individual can have through dedication, spirituality, and commitment to justice.
