Exploring Saba animations: 'Persian Anecdote'

iFilm has embarked on a journey to introduce animations produced by Saba Animation Center.

iFilm English continues its journey to introduce viewers to the world of animations produced by the Saba Animation Center.

Today, we bring you the delightful series 'Persian Anecdote', one of Saba's latest productions.

'Persian Anecdote', directed and produced by Rasoul Shiri, comprises two seasons totaling 113 episodes.

The narrative revolves around a miller, his son, and their donkey, who live in a remote village.

Each episode brings to life adventures drawn from timeless tales, reinterpreted for a modern audience.

Historically, the series has mainly used stories from Persian poets Saadi and Rumi. However, this new series includes tales from various global literary sources while keeping its original style.

The writing team has worked hard to maintain the series' unique anecdotal format, making sure the stories are still engaging both visually and audibly.

In an interview with IRIB, Shiri emphasized the educational intent behind 'Persian Anecdote', explaining, “The original intention of this animation production was based on a simple literary adaptation with the help of satirical topics and suitable for children and teenagers, so that in line with that, we can connect the current generation with ancient Iranian literature and culture.”

He noted that the series has evolved to address contemporary issues in children's lives while still referencing classic poems and stories in character dialogues.

The series distinguishes itself from other animations through its rapid production pace and the use of two-dimensional effects and illustrations.

'Persian Anecdote' was first released as a 13-episode series; and then it expanded to 100 episodes due to popular demand.

With its innovative approach and dedication to preserving cultural heritage, 'Persian Anecdote' continues to be a significant contribution to children's animation, bridging the past and present through engaging storytelling.
