Iranian VOD platforms are to expand their offerings with new lineup of series.

1. ‘The Coffee Kingpin’: Mehran Modiri’s latest VOD series

Mehran Modiri is moving on to a new series titled ‘The Coffee Kingpin’ after the success of his popular ‘Oscar’ show.

‘The Coffee Kingpin’ tells the story of a man who runs a coffee mafia in Iran.

The series is in its final stages of pre-production, with one of the Iranian VOD platforms as the main investor.

Modiri, known for acting in his works, will star in the series alongside Zhaleh Sameti and Sam Derakhshani.

The title ‘The Coffee Kingpin’ evokes memories of the popular series ‘Bitter Coffee’ by Modiri.  

2. Narges Abyar’s ‘Drunkard Morning’ begins filming

Filming for the Iranian series ‘Drunkard Morning’, directed by Narges Abyar, has begun in the Iranian city of Qazvin, with the cast unveiled.

Cast list of the series includes Hamid Sefat, Navid Pour-Faraj, Tarlan Parvaneh, Reza Kianian, Ali Mosaffa, Golab Adineh, Gelareh Abbasi, Behnoush Bakhtiari, Amin Hayaee, Ali Osivand, Marjaneh Golchin, Laleh Eskandari, and Pedram Sharifi.

Adapted from Fattaneh Haj-Seyyed-Javadi’s 1995 novel ‘Drunkard Morning’ (Bamdad Khomar), the story follows Mahboubeh, a girl from a wealthy family in old Tehran who falls in love with a young man from a poor family, leading to an emotional love story and a heart wrenching breakup.
