Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise receives one of France's highest honours before the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

In a private ceremony just hours before the 2024 Olympics opening, Cruise was inducted as a Knight of the Legion of Honor by the French Culture Minister, Rachida Dati, in recognition of Cruise’s significant contributions to the film industry.

Dati wrote in a social media post that "his filming of 'Mission Impossible' in Paris in 2017 beautifully showcased [Paris]."

The ceremony was a private affair, and the actor did not immediately comment publicly.

The prestigious award places Cruise among other renowned artists and filmmakers, such as Robert Redford, Martin Scorsese, and Clint Eastwood.

France is the host nation of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024.
