Iranian cinema continues to entertain audiences, with several films achieving remarkable box office success.

Topping the charts this week is ‘Texas 3’, which has become the highest-grossing film of the year, amassing an impressive 205.5 billion Tomans (about 3,500,000$) in just 80 days.

The film’s success is particularly notable given its widespread appeal, evidenced by the 50,000 screenings it has enjoyed. This suggests a strong connection with audiences, likely due to its mix of popular themes and star power.

Close on its heels is ‘Bloody Crocodile’, which has earned 167.6 billion Tomans over a much longer period of 158 days.

The film’s extended run and substantial number of screenings (63,000) indicate its steady draw at the box office.

‘Intoxicated by Love’ with a total of 119.4 billion Tomans, represents another standout success.

The film’s ability to attract a large audience over 113 days and 40,000 screenings suggests that it has resonated well, likely due to its emotional depth or compelling narrative, which may have struck a chord with viewers.

Moving further down the list, ‘Don’t Be Embarrassed 2’ and ‘Year of the Cat’ also performed solidly this week, earning 76 billion and 64.5 billion Tomans respectively.

Both films had a substantial number of screenings but over different durations, which reflects the varied pace at which films can capture the audience's interest.

‘Don’t Be Embarrassed 2’, for instance, achieved its earnings over a shorter span (72 days), suggesting a more intense burst of popularity, whereas ‘Year of the Cat’ had a more prolonged run (113 days).

A notable mention is ‘Money and Party’ which, despite having a much shorter screening period of just 30 days, still managed to pull in 52 billion Tomans.

On the lower end of the spectrum, films like ‘A Relic of the South’, ‘Meeting with the Wizard’ and ‘6 AM’ posted more modest earnings, ranging between 6 to 10 billion Tomans.

These figures, while not blockbuster-level, suggest these films had a more targeted appeal, perhaps catering to specific demographics or niche interests.

It is also worth highlighting the new releases ‘The Glass House’ and ‘Soudabeh’, which have just begun their theatrical runs.

With 70 million and 30 million Tomans earned in just 2 days, these films show potential for growth. Their performance in the coming weeks will be critical to determine whether they can capitalize on early interest and sustain their box office momentum.

Below is a breakdown of the top-grossing films as of the beginning of Shahrivar 2, 1403 (August 23, 2024). All amounts are in Tomans, excluding mobile screenings:
