Iranian VOD platforms are to expand their offerings with new lineup of series.

1. Mehran Modiri's new series ‘Father's Coffee’ set for November premiere

Iranian filmmaker Mehran Modiri is set to return with his latest series, ‘Father's Coffee’, which will premiere on November 4th on a major VOD platform.

The project was initially introduced under the title ‘The Coffee Kingpin’, but the name was later changed to ‘Father's Coffee’ to better reflect its theme.

Directed and conceptualized by Modiri, the series is written by Amir Baradaran and produced by Javad Farahani.

The story revolves around a man navigating the complexities of Iran's coffee business, mixing drama and Modiri's characteristic touch.

Following the success of his popular show ‘Oscar’, Modiri is once again taking a lead role, acting alongside stars like Zhaleh Sameti and Sam Derakhshani.

The series, reminiscent of Modiri's earlier hit ‘Bitter Coffee’, is in its final stages of pre-production.

With one of Iran's VOD platforms as the primary investor, ‘Father's Coffee’ promises to be a notable addition to Modiri's acclaimed body of work.

2. New crime mini-series ‘Giraffe’ to entertain audiences this fall

‘Giraffe’ is one of the latest entries in Iran's home entertainment scene, featuring a suspenseful storyline.

Directed by Seyed Jamal Seyed-Hatami and written by Amir-Mohammad Abdi, the series has recently entered the filming phase and brings together a talented cast of emerging young actors to capture the attention of a wide audience.

The storyline opens with a striking line: “I am Hiroshima after the bomb; don’t talk to me about misfortune…” This quote captures the heavy and painful atmosphere of the series and prepares viewers for encounters with characters burdened by their troubled pasts and bitter experiences.

In ‘Giraffe’, characters grapple with difficult choices and their consequences. Complex human relationships, hidden secrets, and moral conflicts form the backbone of the narrative.

The cast also includes notable actors such as Mehran Ahmadi, Nima Shabannejad, and Elnaz Malek.

Ahmadi will portray a character distinct from his previous work, while Shabannejad tackles a serious role, and Malek makes her return to home entertainment after her performance in ‘Mortal Wound’.  

This crime mini-series is planned for eight episodes and, given its current production status, is expected to be ready for release in the second half of the year.

With its short format, ‘Giraffe’ could debut in home entertainment by late autumn this year.
