Gaza man builds house using only mud, sand and flour bags

Moataz Barzak talks from Gaza City about building his house using flour bags allocated for aid in light of the lack of necessary building materials in Gaza due to the war.

The displaced Palestinian ditched his tent and decided to build his own house on the beach.

Moataz Yahya Barzak, who was displaced to Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, used around 1,200 flour bags filled with sand and mud to make thick, sturdy walls that would protect him from the elements.

He also built a 1.75m barrier to withstand the monstrous Mediterranean tide.

Barzak has already spent several weeks building his new home, for which the materials cost $300, including a mesh window at the front which gives him a view of the sea.
