Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and actor passes away

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and actor has passed away from ALS.

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and Oscar-nominated actor Sam Shepard has died at 73.

Shephard bagged his Pulitzer Prize in 1979 for the play Buried Child and was nominated as best supporting actor Oscar for his role in The Right Stuff.

In 2015, he had his last movie appearance in Bloodline.

Shepard’s first plays, Cowboys and The Rock Garden, were unveiled in 1963. 

The playwright had won 11 Obie Awards, including Chicago and Icarus’s MotherRed Cross and La TuristaForensic And The Navigators and Melodrama PlayThe Tooth Of CrimeAction, and Curse Of The Starving Class.

Two of his works had been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, namely True West and Fool For Love. The latter had also received the the Obie Award for best play and for direction. 

The renowned actor and playwright was a member of the hall of fame since 1986 and received the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theatre Award as a master American dramatist in 2009.
