US actor dies by apparent suicide

US actor James Ransone has died at the age of 46.

Authorities in Los Angeles confirmed that the cause of death was suicide.

Upon the announcement of his passing, many professional acquaintances and friends offered tributes via online platforms.

Director Spike Lee, with whom Ransone had worked on projects like 'Red Hook Summer' and 'Inside Man', posted an emotional farewell to Instagram: "Rest In Peace to my dear brother James Ransone."

Filmmaker Sean Baker, who directed Ransone in 'Starlet' and 'Tangerine', conveyed his sadness, stating, "I'll miss you dearly my friend."

Ransone is survived by his spouse, Jamie McPhee, and their two childern. 

In 2021, Ransone chose to disclose publicly that he had been the victim of sexual abuse.

He directly linked this traumatic event to his subsequent challenges with substance dependency, specifically alcohol and heroin use.
