iFilm TV pays tribute to recently deceased actor Akbar Abdi

iFilm English TV pays tribute to the recently deceased actor and comedian Akbar Abdi, offering an extract from ‘In the Eye of the Storm’.

The popular veteran comedian died on July 24, 2026 in Tehran.

After finishing high school in 1980, Abdi began acting in amateur plays and shot to fame by appearing in TV series such as ‘Boro Bia Neighborhood’ (1982) and ‘I’m Late for school Again’ (1986).

Then, he appeared in comedies such as ‘Major Mayhem’, ‘The Man Who Became a Mouse’, ‘The Tenants’, ‘The Grand Cinema’ and ‘O’ Iran’.

The actor appeared in more than 120 movies and series.

Abdi’s flexibility allowed him to take on diverse roles such as the role of a child and middle-aged man in ‘The Magical Journey’ and a mentality-disabled boy in ‘Mother’, as well as playing roles of a man and a woman in ‘Snowman’.

He won numerous awards, notably for his appearance in ‘Mother’ and ‘I’m Sleepy’ which won him the Crystal Simorgh for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Fajr International Film Festival.

Iranian series ‘In the Eye of the Storm’ is produced by Masoud Jafari-Jozani, Abbas Akbari, Habibollah Kasehsaz and Reza Ansarian, and directed by Jafari-Jozani.

It spans the period of history between the revolutionary movements began by Iran's national hero Mirza Koochak Khan in the early twentieth century, to the freedom of Khorramshahr during the eight-year war between Iran and Iraq in the 1980s.

The story is told through the trials and tribulations, love and relationships of one family.
