Iran commemorates Mohammad ibn Zakariya' al-Razi annually on his national day, August 27.
As a legendary polymath in medicine, philosophy, and chemistry who broke the mold, al-Razi wrote numerous books on a range of medical and scientific subjects that have been influential in Western medicine for centuries.
The Persian physician al-Razi, also known as Rhazes, was the leading scholar of Islam and the Medieval Ages.
His monograph on smallpox and measles is still considered a medical classic.
