More than 400 short films and six animated films from 45 countries have been scheduled to screen at the 24th edition of the Anima Mundi Festival of Brazil.
Starting from Tuesday, the festival is set to host about 180 Brazilian films and a number of award winning productions, including the ‘The Red Turtle’ by Michael DuDok de Wit that won the Special Jury Prize in the exhibition Un Certain Regard at the previous Cannes Festival.
The organizers of the event confirmed that the Anima Mundi program and the related exhibitions, workshops and talks with the animation producers will last until October 30 in Rio de Janeiro and then will be continued in Sao Paulo on November 2-6.
From the Walt Disney Studios, Brazilian Leo Matsuda who has participated in production of films such as ‘Great Heroes’, ‘Ralph the Wrecker’, and ‘The Simpsons: The Movie’ is among the guests at the event.
Anima Mundi, which is now the second largest animated film festival in the world, was launched in 1993 in Rio de Janeiro and four years later extended its wings to São Paulo.
Being held for 23 editions so far, the organizers say the festival has screened more than 8,000 animations from about 80 countries where around 1.2 million audiences have attended.
The Anima Mundi winner will be introduced to the Academy Awards 2017 as part of the reward.
