Indian NEZ festival honors Iranian animation ‘Pet Man’

The NEZ Int’l Film Festival in Kolkata, India, honors ‘Pet Man’ by Iranian director Marzieh Abrar-Paydar.

The third edition of the NEZ International Film Festival (NIFF) in India has honored the Iranian animation ‘Pet Man’ by Marzieh Abrar-Paydar.

After going on the screen on September 17, the 4-minute animation won the best animation award of the Indian event, Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) stated on September 20, 2017.

Made in 2016, the film was produced in DEFC, the Iranian center for development of documentary and experimental cinema.

‘Pet Man’ tells the story of a pet shop owner who is sleeping in the shop. He sees himself in a scary cage with other animals. Trying to break the cage, he faces a barrier every time.

The animation has so far taken part at a number of international events, including the 40th Festival international du Court Metrage in France, the 21st Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival in South Korea and the 2017 edition of the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival in Austria.

‘Pet Man’ was nominated for an award at the 10th edition of the Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival 2017, went on screen at 2017 Seoul International Extreme-Short Image & Film Festival (SESIFF) in South Korea, and was shortlisted among the top 15 in the 10th Canterbury International Animation Film Festival in the UK.

The third edition of NIFF was held on September 15-17, 2017, in iLead Campus 113 J, Matheswartola Road, Kolkata, India.
