Iran DEFC movies have won 15 international awards over the past six months.
The Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) of Iran made those achievements all through 91 competitions worldwide in the past two quarters of the lunar calendar (starting mid-March).
‘The servant’ by Farnoush Abedi was the frontrunner on the list with 7 awards swept in the international festivals Silver Scream, Black Film, Horrible Imaginings (all in the US), Fantaspoa (Porto Alegre, Brazil), Elche (Spain), Fresco (Armenia), and Horror Movie (Mexico).
Some of the other award winners were ‘Darkened Water (Owsia)’ directed by Alireza Dehqan, ‘Weavers of Imagination’ by Seyyed Mohammad Sadiq Jafari, ‘Spoon’ by Jalal Veysi, ‘Pet Man’ by Marzieh Abrarpaidar, ‘The Switchman’ by Mehdi Khorramian, and ‘Nowruz in Tajikstan’ by Mehdi Bemani.
Throughout the past half-year, the documentaries, feature films and animations by DEFC have vied in the competition sections of several prominent international festivals, including the Hot Docs, Montreal (both in Canada), Annecy (France), Asia Pacific, Melbourne (both in Australia), Zlin (Czech republic), Silver Scream, Moondance (both in the US), Seoul (S. Korea), Rimini (Italy), Budapest (Hungary), Odense (Denmark), Valencia (Spain), Zero Plus (Russia), etc.
Among the 91 Iranian contenders, there were 53 animation films, 33 documentaries and 5 features.
DEFC productions also grabbed 31 domestic awards from 81 nominations during the same period.
