Warsaw festival to screen Iran’s ‘Boarding Pass’

‘Boarding Pass’ from Iran is to compete at the 33rd Warsaw Int’l Film Festival in Poland.

‘Boarding Pass’ directed by Iranian filmmaker Mehdi Rahmani has been scheduled to compete at the 33rd edition of the Warsaw International Film Festival (WFF) in Poland.

The October event will be the first international presence of Rahmani’s ‘Boarding Pass’.

It is about body packers who swallow pre-packaged drugs willfully or under duress to transfer them across the borders. They usually carry opium, heroin, cocaine or amphetamine sealed in layers of plastic wrap in their stomachs for smuggling.

The story begins when a package is not sealed properly and starts leaking in the stomach of a body packer. Then the dying process starts with dilated pupils, slower breathing, ruptured intestines, and finally heart failure.

Mansour Shahbazi, Neda Jebraili, Mohammad-Ali Najafi, Asghar Rafie-Jam, and Shirin Yazdanbakhsh are notable among the cast of the 88-minute movie.

Born in 1979 in Isfahan, Rahmani is an Iranian director, writer and producer. Graduated in filmmaking, he has directed ‘The Other’ in 2010 and made several short films and documentaries.

Established in 1985, WFF joined the elite group of events recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations as international film festivals in 2009.

Now WFF is ranked next to the festivals of Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno, San Sebastian, Karlovy Vary, Tokyo, Moscow, Mar del Plata, Montreal, Shanghai, Cairo, Goa, and Tallinn.

The 33rd edition of WFF is slated to be held on October 13-22, 2017.
