The 16th edition of Festival Internazionale del Cinema d’Arte in Italy has picked Iran’s ‘Icky’ directed by Parastoo Cardgar as the best animation.
Cardgar’s animation tells the story of a child in a world where people have a solved Rubik’s cube as their heads, but the child’s head is different from everyone else. S/He has an unsolved Rubik's cube on the neck.
‘Icky’ has previously received several international awards from a variety of festivals, including best animation at Romania’s Short to the Point festival, best animation at Seattle festival and best director at Bollywood International Film Festival.
The animation has also taken part at global film events such as the 12th edition of the Athens Animfest in Greece and the 10th edition of the annual Iranian Film Festival in San Francisco, the US.
Festival Internazionale del Cinema d’Arte had nominated another Iranian film, ‘Noise’ directed by Pouria Razi.
Launched in 2001, Festival Internazionale del Cinema d’Arte is aimed at contributing to greater disclosure and affirmation of the values of Culture and Arts (painting, sculpture, literature, theater, dance, film, music, architecture, photography, comics, etc. through the language of film.
The Festival is open both to foreign and Italian producers, as well as cinema companies, associations and singles.
The 16th edition of the festival was held on October 11-14, 2017.
