Georgia’s ‘Corn Island’ to screen in Film Museum of Iran

Oscar-nominated Georgian drama ‘Corn Island’ is scheduled to screen at the Film Museum of Iran.

Oscar-nominated Georgian drama ‘Corn Island’ has been scheduled to screen at the Film Museum of Iran.

Georgian Giorgi Ovashvili’s 2014 film will screen at the Film Museum of Iran in the capital city of Tehran on Sunday, October 22.

Representatives from different embassies as well as Iranian artists and cineastes are expected to attend the screening session.

The scheduled event is part of ‘Georgia Night’, a program organized by Iran’s Art and Experience Cinema in collaboration with the Embassy of Georgia in Tehran.

‘Corn Island’ is an astonishing film presented with the utmost modesty. The story deals with a hardy old peasant and his obedient granddaughter as they carry out one of the world’s most daunting farming traditions.

The movie takes on several elements as it takes place in a conflict zone. In addition, the characters do not have names, and there is barely any dialogue.

The film touches on social aspects such as the Georgian-Abkhaz relationship, a battle between man and nature, a desire to escape from a closed space and a love story.

‘Corn Island’ was nominated for the Best Foreign-Language Film in the 87th Academy Awards.

The movie went on to win the Crystal Globe prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2014.
