Asghar Farhadi’s blockbuster ‘The Salesman’ has inaugurated the Guwahati International Film Festival in India.

Oscar-winning movie ‘The Salesman’ opened the first edition of the festival in Assam, India, on Saturday.

The film tells the story of a young couple named Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti) who move into a new flat in the center of Tehran. But an incident linked to the previous tenant dramatically changes their life.

The movie won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards as well as going on to win double awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Six other Iranian movies are scheduled to be screened until November 2, 2017 during the festival.

Guwahati International Short Film Festival (GISFF) is an initiative by Creovaent Productions to establish a quality platform for Independent filmmakers, especially from northeast India, and an effort to showcase the best of the best short films from all over the world.

More than 2,500 delegates have registered themselves for the festival.

The event is underway from October 28 - November 2.
