The Academy Awards selection committee has shortlisted 10 semi-finalists for the Best Animated Short Oscar 2018.
The nominees are selected from 63 entries using an averaged scoring system. All members of the branch can take part in the second round which kicks off at year’s end and will be done by preferential voting.
The short list includes ‘Cradle’ by Devon Manney, ‘Dear Basketball’ by Glen Keane and Kobe Bryant, ‘Fox and the Whale’ by Robin Joseph, ‘Garden Party’ by Victor Caire and Gabriel Grapperon, as well as ‘In a Heartbeat’ by Esteban Bravo and Beth David.
‘Life Smartphone’ by Chenglin Xie, ‘Lost Property Office’ by Daniel Agdag, director and Liz Kearney, ‘Lou’ by Dave Mullins and Dana Murray, ‘Negative Space’ by Max Porter and Ru Kuwahata, as well as ‘Revolting Rhymes’ by Jakob Schuh and Jan Lachauer are also on the list.
Five nominees will be announced along with the rest of the Academy Award contenders on January 23, 2018. All members of the academy will receive DVDs of these nominees and can vote for the winner.
