South Korea opens an Iran Film Festival in the capital city of Seoul.

South Korea has opened an Iran Film Festival in the capital city of Seoul.

The festival is being inaugurated on the eve of the 55th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between Iran and South Korea.

Iranian Ambassador to South Korea Hassan Taherian and Ambassador for Public Diplomacy in South Korea’s Foreign Ministry Enna Park attended the opening ceremony on Friday.

Park said the event is aimed at strengthening cultural interactions between the two countries to enforce mutual relationships in all fields.

Talking about Iranian cinematographers and artists’ achievements in national and international events, Taherian added “Iranian cinema enjoys a remarkable and independent distinctiveness.”

He also emphasized the importance of such programs in introducing Iranian culture and cinema to the Korean people and film enthusiast.

Slated for December 15-17, 2017, the three-day festival was opened with the screening of late-great Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami’s ‘Where Is the Friend's Home?’ at the Art House in the Seoul Women's University.
