Göteborg Film Festival to screen Iranian documentary

The 41st edition of the Göteborg Film Festival in Sweden has set to screen Iranian documentary ‘The Invincible Diplomacy of Mr. Naderi’.

Co-directed by Behtash Sanaeiha and Maryam Moqaddam in 2017, the documentary depicts an eccentric Iranian man who weaves a large Persian Carpet of Peace to reconcile Iran and the US in order to bring about world peace, but he is surprised by all the unexpected obstacles.

In the 90-minute documentary, Mr. Naderi, a Tehran-based entrepreneur, has all money that can buy except his biggest dream; to end all wars, namely the one between Iran and the US. But where there’s a will, there’s a way, so since 2000, he has been weaving “Persian Peace Carpets” he wishes to present to the US government on behalf of his country. Will he succeed to carry out his grand gesture?

The film has succeeded to receive a number of awards from different national and international film events, including the Cinema Verite and the Hafez Annual Cinematic Celebration in Iran.

The Göteborg Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Nordic countries. Each year the festival’s program group travels around the world to track down choice films to bring back to Göteborg. These films are then presented during the ten-day festival at the end of January, creating a great banquet serving audiences nearly 450 films from some 80 countries.

Launched in 1979, the festival’s goal is to be a springboard for new Nordic film out into the world. Every year the Nordic competition, Dragon Award Best Nordic Film, scrutinizes an upper-crust of competitors. The winner’s prize is among one of the largest around the world; one million Swedish crowns.

The 41st edition of the Göteborg Film Festival is slated for January 26-February 5, 2018.
