4) Where Is the Friend’s Home? (1987)

‘Where Is the Friend’s Home?’ is a deceptively simple tale directed and written by late legendary Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami.

It narrates a conscientious schoolboy's quest to return his friend’s notebook. ‘Where Is the Friend’s Home?’ celebrates the innocent world of children and the community spirit in rural areas. It was performed mostly by non-professional actors.

The film is among the top ten in the BFI list of the 50 films you should see by the age of 14.

Kiarostami’s flick won the Bronze Leopard at the 1989 Locarno Film Festival besides scooping the Golden Simorgh for Best Director at the 5th Fajr Film Festival.
