5) Life+1 Day (2016)
‘Life+1 Day’ (Life and a Day) by Saeed Roustaei recounts the story of Somayeh, the youngest daughter of an underprivileged family who is to choose whether to marry a rich Afghan boy or to stay with her struggling siblings and continue to patch up her broken family.
Somayeh is the glue holding her family together, and each fears what will happen to them after she marries.
This film beautifully explores the complexity of family relationships through confrontations and tense dialogue, and the ways we often cruelly hurt the ones we love the most.
Roustaei’s movie has received several awards at the 34th Fajr Film Festival including best director, best screenplay, best actress Parinaz Izadyar, and best supporting actor Navid Mohammadzadeh.
Owing to its perfect balance of sensitivity and aestheticism, ‘Life+1 Day’ could receive the 2016 Reflet d’Or for Best Feature at the Geneva International Film Festival Tous Ecrans.
Last but not least, ‘Life+1 Day’ has also bagged NETPAC Award at IFFA as well as the Best Script award at the 15th Dhaka International Film Festival.
