‘The Servant’ to go on screen at 20th SF Indiefest

The 20th San Francisco Independent Film Festival is to screen short Iranian animation ‘The Servant’.

The 20th edition of the San Francisco Independent Film Festival (SF Indiefest) has set to screen short Iranian animation ‘The Servant’.

The US event will screen the Iranian animation on February 3, 2018, during ‘Shorts 2: An Animated World’ which is dedicated to showcase a wide variety of animations from around the world.

‘The Servant’ narrates the familiar story of a master and his servant, the story of a writer’s encounter with a gigantic insect, a cockroach.

The cockroach becomes a servant but gradually begins to realize that it deserves better conditions, so it tries to turn the table and change the game in its own favor.

The man, however, attempts to preserve the current situation but soon realizes that the game has no rules.

Directed by Farnoush Abedi, ‘The Servant’ has grabbed more than 20 awards from different national and international film festivals.

The 9-minute animation previously won the Best Animation award at the 33rd Tehran International Short Film Festival in Tehran and the Best Short Film title at the 13th edition of Fantaspoa - International Fantastic Film Festival in Brazil.

The Iranian animation has also won an award at the 14th London Independent Film Festival in the UK and the best animation award of the 2017 edition of the Silver Scream Fest in California, the US.

It also bagged Best Short Animation award at the Querétaro International Film Festival, the best animation award at the Corto Creativo International Film Festival, both in Mexico, and Best Sci–Fi Short Film award at the Hot Springs International Horror Film Festival in the US.

The more recent achievements of ‘The Servant’ are a number of awards and nominations at the 16th Miami Short Film Festival in the US, the 9th Crystal Palace International Film Festival, and the 2017 edition of the Unrestricted View Horror Film Festival, both in the UK.

The San Francisco Independent Film Festival is an annual non-profit organization that has been operating since 1998. It present three festivals every year, including the SF Independent Film Festival (SF Indie for short), the SF Documentary Festival (DocFest for short), and the genre film festival. Last year more than 21,000 film and event goers attended the SF Indiefest events.

The 20th edition of the SF Indiefest is slated for February 1–15, 2018, in the US.
