10 Iran films to watch at least once– Part 6

Films have the capability to usher viewers into customs and traditions of a country as well as how people in a locality think.

6) ‘No Date, No Signature’ (2017)

This well-acted drama by Iranian filmmaker Vahid Jalilvand explores questions of culpability and responsibility in a society which is constantly teetering on the edge of law.

A forensic doctor finds himself personally entangled in a young boy’s death in Vahid Jalilvand’s ‘No Date, No Signature’.

Among the well-directed, top-drawer cast are Amir Aghaee as Dr. Kaveh Nariman along with no-holds-barred performance of Navid Mohammadzadeh as a grief-stricken father that were recognized by the juries of the 35th Fajr Film Festival, bringing Best Director and Best Supporting Actor award for ‘No Date, No Signature’.

Jalilvand’s 104-minute film was much applauded at the Venice Horizons section of the 74th Venice Film Festival by the best director award; and its star Navid Mohammadzadeh was also selected as best actor in this category.

High visual quality and nearly black-and-white images highlighted with faint traces of color matched by subtle musical pieces appeared to act effective in creating characters and setting the stage for this unfolding drama.
