Cinema audience hails sacrifice of nation’s sons

Fajr audience pays sentimental tribute to epic heroes.

Audience stand up and give a long clap, to pay tribute to all martyred on the path of freedom, during the closing ceremony of the 36th edition of Fajr fest in Tehran.

While the most prominent cinematic marathon in Iran recognized defense flicks as frontrunners, the final ceremony turned into a feast of sentiments when a Shrine-defender’s family went on stage.

As Martyr Moez Gholami’s family was there to award a winner with the special prize, the entire audience rose to its feet to pay tribute to all martyrs of the path of freedom.

Young men such as Moez were martyred in the concurrent war against the US-backed terrorist group, Daesh; back three decades, more than 213,000 martyrs lost their lives during the 8-year imposed war against the Iranian nation, which started in 1980.

People clapped their hands and expressed their heartfelt sentiments toward the national heroes for a couple of minutes, before they were seated again.

Then Morteza Shabani, the producer of ‘Women with Gunpowder Earrings’, a movie that depicts Daesh atrocities vis-à-vis the Iraqi Izadi women and girls, received his award from the martyr’s family.

Two of the great grandchildren of the late founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, were also among the audience at the ceremony.

Also, during the screenings, peoples showed affection when ‘The Lost Strait’, the festival’s Best Movie award winner was prized. As the screenplay was based on a real battle at Abu Guraib strait, once the list of martyrs of the battle appeared on the closing credits, the audience burst into praise, and people applauded to show admiration.

Ebrahim Hatamikia, the flick’s director, whose film ‘Bodyguard’ has already been aired on ifilm, said that Iranian world-famous commander, Brigadier General Qasem Soleymani, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Qods force, started to cry while he was watching the ‘Lost Strait’.
