The 13th edition of the Athens Animfest in Greece has picked Iranian animation 'Wuthering Heights' for its Official Selection.
Directed by Shirin Ashtari, ‘Wuthering Heights’ short animation is an adaptation of the classic Emily Brontë novel.
It starts with the main male character, sitting on his bed playing with a slingshot as he suddenly jumps from the sound of a girl laughing, excitedly searching for her, and this is where the twilight zone begins.
Brontë's novel, ‘Wuthering Heights’ was published in 1847 and the novelist died the following year, aged 30.
The novel has inspired several adaptations, including film, radio and television projects.
The Athens Animfest has also selected Iranian short animations ‘Alphabet’ directed by Kianoush Abedi, ‘Blows with the Wind’ directed by Hazhir Asadi, and 'Run Rostam Run' directed by Hossein Molayemi for screening in the competition section.
The Greek festival is organized by the European Animation Center to bring the younger generation closer to the secrets and fascination of the art of animation and their diverse applications on the small and big screen, the multimedia, the Internet and education in general.
The 13th edition of the Athens Animfest is slated for March 15-18, 2018, in Greece.
