Silk Road Film Festival to screen 5 titles from Iran

A lineup of Iranian films has been set to be screened at the 7th edition of the Silk Road International Film Festival (SRIFF) in Ireland.

The Iranian lineup includes three short films and two documentaries.

‘The Watchmaker’, to go on screen at Edmund Burke Theatre on March 9, is a short film about an old clock that is not working. The whole neighborhood is trying to fix it but they fail, finally a watchmaker’s grandchild comes to the rescue and fixes it all by himself.

‘Tattooing Iran’ directed by Houshmand Honarkar is 70-minute documentary which will go on screen at Dublin’s Filmbase on March 9, 2018.

The documentary is more concerned about traditional tattooing in Iran rather than modern tattoos. It focuses on traditional tattoos in many regions of Iran and highlights tattooing in social, artistic, religious, historical, medical views.

The 16-minute ‘Night Crawling’, directed by Mehdi Mohammad-nejadian, is about two young men who go to a cemetery in the middle of night to unearth a buried person for revenge. It will be screened at Neil Theatre on March 11.

The 7th SRIFF has also scheduled to screen Iranian short film 'Numbness' directed by Milad Jarmouz as well as the documentary ‘Ranger & Leopard’ directed by Fathollah Amiri.

Founded in 2012, the Silk Road International Film Festival is an internationally acclaimed film event which is held in March every year. The festival also holds year-round screenings, talks and events.

Besides screening international films, there is a special section for films from the Silk Road, including countries on the historical path of the Silk Road ancient trade route such as Iran.

Another section called Belt & Road includes Asian, Arab, Middle Eastern, African, Mediterranean and European cinema.

The 2018 edition of the SRIFF is slated for March 7-11, 2018, in Dublin, Ireland.
