Famed novel performed as musical in Tehran

Tehran Theater hosts top actors in Charles Dickens novel.

Renowned Iranian artists have performed in a big-budget musical of ‘Oliver Twist’ in Tehran.

The popular theater, based on Charles Dickens’s famous 1838 novel, has attracted large audiences to the hall where it is staged.

The story centers on orphan Oliver Twist, born in a workhouse and sold into apprenticeship with an undertaker. After escaping, Twist travels to London, where he meets "The Artful Dodger", a member of a gang of juvenile pickpockets led by the elderly criminal, Fagin.

Directed by Hossein Parsaei, over 150 cast and musicians (in an ensemble) are making a memorable night for the fans at Tehran’s Vahdat hall.

The cast includes lead role superstars such as Navid Mohammadzadeh, Atila Pesyani and Mahnaz Afshar, as well as Amir Kaveh Ahanin Jan, Saeed Changizian, Hootan Shakiba and Dariush Movafagh, among others.

Each performance lasts for 2 hours, and the show is scheduled to continue for another 2 weeks in the Iranian capital of Tehran.
