Kiarostami’s Louvre photo collection to go on display

The National Museum of Iran has set to hold a photo collection titled ‘Look at Me’ from the shots taken by late-great filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

The exhibition, to be commenced next week, showcases photos taken during Kiarostami’s several visits to the Louvre Museum in Paris, France.

‘Look at Me’ will be opened on the margins of the Louvre Museum exhibit at the National Museum of Iran on March 5.

Kiarostami has made use of his penchants toward documentary and the social sciences, creating an everlasting drop of picture-within-picture, registering and revealing the visitors’ relationship to the images.

He visited the Louvre a number of times from 1996 to 2012, where he took the photos of the visitors. He slipped smoothly among the tourists and captured the photos with a more or less sociological interest.

The other laudable photo series of the Iranian auteur are ‘Snow White’ and ‘Roads’.

Kiarostami has won many awards including the Palme d'Or he snatched at the Cannes Festival in 1997 for his film ‘Taste of Cherry’.

The late writer-director has been widely hailed as a pioneer of the Iranian New Wave.

He is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator, and graphic designer.

The veteran Iranian filmmaker who passed away on July 4, 2016, following a heart attack at the age of 76, was honored at several film events around the world.

The Louvre collection, to go on show in the National Museum of Iran, contains some 35 selected pieces associated with various cultures such as Greece, Egypt, and Mesopotamia. It will embrace a number of ancient Iranian objects as well.
