9) ‘Muhammad: the Messenger of God’ (2015)
The Iranian religious blockbuster ‘Muhammad: The Messenger of God’ by Majid Majidi presents the life of Islam’s Holy Prophet and narrates the early years of his prophecy in the holy city of Mecca while attempting to explain the roots of Islam and its message which revolves around tolerance and love for a fellow human being.
The lavish epic lensed by multiple Oscar-winner Vittorio Storaro is only the first part of a trilogy depicting different stages of the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Marked as Iran's biggest-budget production to date, the blockbuster cinematic project has been warmly received by international audiences in several countries as well as glowing reviews across the world.
Development of this Iranian epic began in 2007 and Majidi wrote the first draft of the screenplay by 2009.
Majidi’s ‘Muhammad: The Messenger of God’ was also selected as the Iranian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.
