Watch ifilm exclusive report on ‘A House on 41st Street’ directed by Hamidreza Qorbani and produced by Seyyed-Mahmoud Razavi.
Below is a transcription of the report's highlights.
ifilm: There are millions of houses in a city and each house has a story to tell. Some of them we’ve heard before and some of them are still new to us. The story we’re gonna talk about today is called ‘A House on 41st Street’.
Hamidreza Qorbani the director has been active in the cinema industry in different fields. He has worked as the editor and the assistant director, but this is the first time he’s directing.
Hamidreza Qorbani, Director: Mrs. Derakhshandeh introduced me to the cinema industry; she was my university professor. She knew I was interested in cinema industry and introduced me to work on a television show.
I began my work as an assistant director, after that I got to know the late Mehdi Rajaeeian. I cooperated with him in a few movies and series. I was his assistant. Then I cooperated with Fakhimzadeh, Hasan Fathi, Dariush Mehrjooei and Asghar Farhadi.
ifilm: He was originally going to make a different movie, but then he decided to make a movie based on a true story.
Seyyed Mahmoud Razavi, Producer: Since the day Mr. Qorbani told me about the first proposal, it took two years to be made. He spent one year and a half working on the screenplay. That one-line story was interesting enough to me, it has a humane theme to it and also the strange situation the mother is stuck in.
Hamidreza Qorbani, Director: The foremost thing that tempted me to make this movie was a mother stock in a dilemma. A mother has already lost one of her sons and the other son is on the verge of being executed and she has two daughters-in-law.
Now she has to choose between these daughters-in-law and be fair. This main subject was interesting for me.
Azita Iraee, Screenwriter: I can say that it was made completely based on the screenplay because of the cooperation that existed between me and the director.
After I wrote a few scenes, I sent them to him and he would read them. We held meetings and discussed them and then I would revise them.
ifilm: ‘A House on 41st Street’ is not full of ups and downs. It is narrated very smoothly.
