Iranian feature film ‘Blockage’ by Mohsen Qaraei has received special mention from a film festival in Bulgaria.

The 2016 social drama received Special Mention from the jury of the 2018 Sofia International Film Festival (SIFF) in Bulgaria this week.

‘Blockage’ tells the story of street vendors and a corrupt officer in charge of controlling them.

A man named Qasem works for Tehran Municipality and his job is to prevent vendors from selling on the crowded sidewalks. However, he is to be fired because of making covert deals with selected vendors.

The film competed in the International Competition section of the SIFF, though failed to earn a prize. However, it was commended by the festival’s jury.

Among the film’s cast are Hamed Behdad, Baran Kosari, Mohsen Kiaei, Nader Fallah and Giti Qasemi.

The 22nd Sofia International Film Festival was held in the Bulgarian city of the same name from March 7-18.
