What is the worth of an Oscar Statuette?

It’s surprising that selling your Oscar prize is legally impractical.

Probably the most recognizable award in the film industry, the Oscar statue, is every year awarded to several renowned artists by the Academy Awards. But how much is it worth?

It is surprising that the statuettes are extremely difficult to offload for cash.

According to a change in the related regulations introduced in the 1950s, the Oscar winners have almost no right to the statuette, whatsoever.

If they decide to sell the awards, they will have to first make an offer, for $1 only, to the Academy. This rule also applies to the heirs of the winners.

But as to the non-monetary value of the statuette, a 2010 study by Colgate University showed that male winners were provided with a big boost in their future earning potential, with a significant difference between those who were only nominated, and the actors who actually won the prize.
