‘Alphabet’ to compete at Festival of Nations in Austria

Iranian short animation ‘Alphabet’ is to go on screen at the 46th Festival of Nations in Austria.

Iranian short animation ‘Alphabet’ has been accepted to go on screen at the 46th edition of the Festival of Nations in Austria.

More than 100 short films and animations from across the world will be screened during the six-day Austrian event.

Directed by Kianoush Abedi, ‘Alphabet’ is a 3D animated production of Iran's Documentary and Experimental Film Center in late 2017.

The 6-minute animated piece depicts a nation that has forgotten the alphabet of living. They cannot see, hear, or speak, but the words are waiting for them eagerly.

‘Alphabet’ has so far joined some international film events, winning a number of awards, including the best short film award at the 5th Sayulita Film Festival in Mexico and the Best Experimental and Animation award at the 6th Speechless Film Festival in the US.

Nominated for Best Animation Award at the 2nd Norwegian International Seagull Short Film Festival, it is also set to vie at some global film events in April 2018, including the 5th edition of Tripoli Film Festival in Lebanon (April 19-26).

The Festival of Nations is the most important film festival in Austria with more than 700 entries from 55 countries every year.

Its awards include The Lenz Award for the best film in all main categories, Youth Award, Best Upper Austrian Film Award, UNICA Award, and Audience Award.

Short film section of the 46th Festival of Nations is slated for May 18-24, 2018, in Lenzing, a small village near the lake Attersee in Austria.
