Kiarostami, Abbas (born June 22, 1940 - died July 4, 2016, Tehran)

Iran legendary helmer Abbas Kiarostami is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator, and graphic designer.

Kiarostami has won many awards including the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival in 1997 for his film ‘Taste of Cherry’.

Several prestigious festivals and film events have already honored the noted Iranian director Kiarostami by presenting commemorative awards as well as holding retrospectives of his works across the globe.

Kiarostami served as a juror at numerous film festivals, most notably the Cannes Film Festival in 1993, 2002 and 2005.

He presided over the Caméra d'Or Jury in Cannes Film Festival 2005. The director was also announced as president of the Cinéfondation and Short Films jury of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
