Partovi, Kambuzia (born November 11, 1955, Rasht)

Iranian director Kambuzia Partovi started his career as a short film filmmaker and while still a university student, he made a few short documentaries for the IRIB.

He went on to produce his first feature film ‘The Glasses’ for IRIB2. Immediately after, he made his silver screen debut with the movie ‘Fish’ (1987).

Since then, Partovi has directed a few prominent movies in Iran’s cinema, including ‘Golnar’ (1988), ‘The Singing Cat’ (1990), ‘The Game of Elders’ (1990), and ‘Transit Café’ (2004).

Partovi has written several film scripts for some of the most prominent directors of Iranian cinema. He proved to be a professional screenwriter and director, winning several awards and nominations throughout his career.

He has received the Crystal Simorgh for Best Screenplay from the 20th Fajr International Film Festival for ‘I’m Taraneh, 15’ (2001), the Best Screenplay Award from the 5th Iran Cinema Celebration for ‘The Unfinished Song’ (2000), the Crystal Simorgh for Best Screenplay from the 23rd Fajr International Film Festival, and the Best Screenplay Award from the 9th Iran Cinema Celebration for ‘Transit Café’.

Winning the Golden Butterfly for Best Screenplay from the 20th Iran International Children and Teenagers Film Festival for ‘I Saw Your Dad Last Night Aida’ (2004), and the Special Jury Award and the Film Journalists Association Award for Best Director from Mar del Plata International Film Festival for ‘Transit Café’ are some of Partovi’s other achievements.
